Lion’s Breath

Lion’s breath, or Simhasana in Sanskrit, is a type of Pranayama that’s said to alleviate stress, eliminate toxins, and stimulates the 5th charka.

The 5th charka is located at the base of the throat. It is the center for communication, the gateway to expression, and creativity.

How to practice Lion’s breath:

1. Get comfortable. You can perform Lion’s breath while sitting in a chair, in tabletop position, or any seated position.

2. Take a few moments to deepen the breath and find an even length in your inhales and exhales.

3. Bring your awareness to the third eye point as you breathe. Begin to deepen the breath as you relax the shoulders down the back.

4. Lean forward slightly, bracing your hands on your knees or the floor.

5. Take a deep inhale through the nose and open your mouth as you exhale. Stick your tongue out and stretch the muscles in your face as you exhale, making the sound “haaaaah" from deep within your belly. Your mouth should be open as much as possible.

This is Lion’s Breath!!

6. Practice this for 3-4 rounds, and then bring the tongue back into the mouth and relax your face and throat.

7. Finish by taking a few deep breaths.

Enjoy your practice everyone!
